What We Believe

River City Church is a church under the lordship of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we are committed to contending for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3). River City Church holds to historic Christian orthodoxy as encapsulated and confessed in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds* as accurate representations of Scripture’s teaching. In addition to these historic formulations, we are situated within the evangelical, soteriologically reformed, and Baptist traditions.**

The basic doctrines established within the River City Church Bylaws & Statement of Faith represent what we believe to be core elements of biblical teaching. We expect all members of River City Church to affirm these doctrines.

Further, these theological beliefs and distinctives within the River City Church Statement of Faith reflect what distinguishes River City Church from other churches who would affirm basic orthodox Christian doctrines. These distinctives indelibly shape the way that River City Church is led and the direction in which the church is headed. It is possible that not all members fully embrace all aspects of these distinctives, but members should expect that the distinctives will be maintained in all ministry environments at River City Church, and members may not teach contrary to them.

*Both the Apostles’ and Nicene creeds use the phrase “holy catholic church.” The word “catholic” with a lowercase “c” traditionally refers to the universal Christian church in history, as opposed to the word “Catholic” with an uppercase “C” that usually refers to the Roman Catholic Church. To be clear, we are confidently and unapologetically Protestant and happy to affirm these two historic creeds as faithful to the faith “once for all delivered to the Saints” (Jude 3).
