MotS Week 1 - God's Word
Passage: 1 Corinthians 15:1–15:11
We began a new five-week series looking at our Core Values.
We want to revisit and recapture a fresh vision for how the Gospel is on display in these things we say we value in our lives and in our church.
We opened looking at the the Gospel of Jesus grounded in the Word of God.
Sermon Big Idea: We can attempt to uphold Jesus apart from the rest of the Bible. But the Gospel of Jesus is grounded in the whole story of the Bible, therefore we too are to be grounded in the Word of God as our First and Final authority.
The Gospel: The Gospel is the good news of what God has done through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ to secure forgiveness and eternal life for all who repent and believe in Him.
Sola Scriptura: The Scriptures (The Bible) as inspired, and revealed, and preserved by the Holy Spirit is the supreme and final authority on every matter of which it speaks.
“[The] gospel is integrally tied to the Bible’s storyline. Indeed, it is incomprehensible without understanding that storyline… But the point is simply this: the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ makes sense in the context of this storyline and in no other.” - D.A. Carson (from “The Biblical Gospel”)
